Liposuction is an outpatient procedure that can be performed safely in our office under local anesthesia, depending on the combinations of procedures you may have done.
Dr. Geers makes a small incision near the area that is being worked on. A cannula is used which is a thin tube, is inserted into the incision to loosen excess fat beneath the skin. The fat is then suctioned out through the tube. Depending on the number for areas that are treated, this procedure can last anywhere from one to three hours.
With the advancements made in liposuction techniques, the equipment used helps minimize swelling, trauma and discomfort, and when this procedure is performed by a qualified surgeon, recovery can be a quick process. Many of our patients can return to work within a few days, depending on the demands of their job, and extent of their procedure.
Dr. Geers may also provide you with a compression garment to wear for a few weeks post-surgery. This garment helps minimize swelling and encourage optimal skin contraction. With our scar gel, and proper care, scars should also fade significantly over time, following your surgery. In many cases, scars are barely visible after a year or so.
Your results from your Liposuction procedure can last permanently with the proper care. Liposuction removes stubborn fat cells from your body, causing them to not grow back. However, it is important to maintain your weight with proper diet and exercise. If you take care of your body, your results will remain optimal.
